‘Foil’ by Daniel Templeman Profile

Grey Street, Brisbane

ARIA Property Group

Major artworks have been procured for ‘Austin’, an 18 story apartment building sited along Grey St, the predominate thoroughfare for pedestrians and traffic arriving city bound to South Brisbane.

As the sunlight moves across the Grey St facade, Daniel Templeman’s ‘Foil’ creates an optical illusion of movement. The 3D illusion from this facade treatment is generated through the shift of sunlight across the geometric shapes and congruent patterns created from the routed 2D material. This artwork utilizing the facade on Grey Street addresses the curatorial rationale of ‘Transition’.

From the artist -

“Foil maps light across its surface. It attempts to act as a conduit between the light source, one’s location, and the artwork. This elusive quality, or the presence of the ‘less-visible’, brings the notion of engagement in to play – as understanding the object is contingent on both movement and the site. ”
